I was curious to your thoughts on the rake/dealer appreciation cut taken from the 3team tourney. I played as well, and was pretty disgusted when I found out that the 75$ PER TEAM advertised price was manipulated by management to be broken down to 25$ PER PERSON so that they could take a $5 cut from each player ($15 per team) THEN rake on top of that 20% ($4 per player, $12 per team) thus putting only $48 of the $75 into the prize pool. To me, that is almost highway robbery, and I, if anyone, know how important tips are as a dealer myself at one of the local casinos, but even I feel like this was a little much to take off the top.
Thanks in advance for your reply,

Hi, Jamal. Thanks for posting. If I understand you correctly, there was a $5 per player staff appreciation fee off the top and then a 20% rake on the remaining $20 entry fee. I do think that is extreme and I understand now why the dealers all decided to put money back in the prize pool after players complained that night.
One thing that I have seen at Greektown Casino is that they always print out the rake separate from the buy-in amount. It must be a rule the Gaming Commission has, but I notice that they always have that listed separate in their posters, etc. I am surprised tha there is not a similar rule for charity rooms to specify exactly how much is being raked by the room/charity and how much is going into the prize pool.
This might be a good topic to ask the commissioner about if we can get him on the show. This and the moratorium on new poker rooms opening. Good comment, thanks for posting it.
Thanks for the super quick response (I kind of forget then just noticed it sorry
but just a quick update in case you didn’t play the latest 3Man tourney @ woodhaven.
it took place the last monday in february, buyin was the same, and the total DRake (dealers + rake) fee was the same as well. Only ~$48 of the $75 per team went towards the prize pool. They did however make more of focus on the team aspect, splitting the prize pool from a 50/50 split to 75% for the winning team – pay one place ( i believe there were 24 teams, and the total team share was ~$900), and then pay top 3 individuals. this is again an estimate but i believe it was near $140/80/60 .
i’d love to see a better managed version of this 3team event, as it adds a new dynamic to what can be a repetitive game. however, with the 33% rake, it’s going to become more and more clear to other players that the value doesn’t really exist — if you went to play blackjack, and bought in for $100 and was given $66 because the house kept the rest — you’d find a new casino or game to play pretty quick.
looking forward again to your thoughts/comments.
